An Entry Into Mormon Art

September 24th, 2007 by Menachem Wecker

One area Iconia is in dire need of expansion is Mormon art, and Rick Holton has been very helpful in pointing me in the right directions. Rick writes:

Hi Menachem!

I saw the piece on Iconia about the new film on the Mountain Meadows Massacre (which Romney declined to see). There is an article about MMM in the September 2007 issue of Ensign (the Church’s flagship magazine), pp. 14-21. It can be accessed online here.

The article is titled “The Mountain Meadows Massacre” by Richard E. Turley Jr., managing director of Family and Church History Department.

Turley begins asking, “How could members of the Church have participated in such a crime?” and really surrounds the issue on a number of sides. I will have more to say on the intersection of Mormonism and art soon.
