Arts Roundup: Claims of a Jewish Art Conspiracy and a Jewish Anti-Muslim Rant on Islamic Art

April 1st, 2007 by Menachem Wecker

Here’s a post from Vengeful Zhid, which is both inexcusable for its hate speech and downright wrong:

Since 9/11, there has been an intense focus on portraying Islam as a peaceful religion, one with a long history of good deeds and artistic accomplishments (just read the NY Times and notice how much coverage they give to Islamic art these days). You can’t pick up a paper without reading a touching story about how Muslims are good, honest folk.

Perhaps if the MSM gave Islamic art the coverage it deserved, many people would start thinking of Muslims as good, honest folk (which they are in the same proportion as any other group, if not more).

And along similar terms, here’s another ignorant hateful view that ursulav encountered on the Jewish art supply conspiracy.

“I do not think there is such a thing as ’secular art’ … There’s nothing non-religious about the ’secular,’” write AG. So far so good, but then AG rebuilds the very structures just dismantled with new names: sacred and profane. I agree with the post for the most part, but I would modify it and say that there is a lot of sacred art and there is a lot of profane art out there. To argue that no art is secular requires defining secular in such restrictive ways that it renders the word fairly useless.

Musharraf calls for “cooperation and assistance between archaeological departments and institutions of different countries for excavation and preservation of artefacts relating to different religions,” particularly Buddhist art.
